Following their recent fishing adventures, Ava is fascinated with the fishing lures and likes to "name" them with Daddy. She has shared her knowledge with Ines and friends.

mother's day

The chickens accidentally got some freedom a few days ago, and they were very well behaved (stayed in back yard, returned to the coop to lay eggs, put themselves to bed) so we've been experimenting with giving them more time out of the coop. They're handling it well, but unfortunately for them, their roaming makes them more interesting to Ava.

Daddy is letting a small patch of winter rye cover crop go to seed. It is tall.

Daddy was adding straw to the vegetable garden, and Ava took some of it and made this "nest" in the sidewalk (like the chickens in their coop). Here, she's "laying an egg."
 More straw.
The azaleas are beautiful this week.

A few photos from Ines, from the zoo and play group.

"Reading party"

Mother's day started out with Ava and Mommy planting some cucumber seeds in a pot while Daddy cooked breakfast.

Then we went fishing at local Lake Artemisia. There is a huge population of some kind of caterpillar there right now. They littered the sidewalk, lawn and tree trunks from the entrance and were of course a big hit with the toddler contingent.
Daddy found an egg shell from a wild bird, but it was no match for the caterpillars.
Not at all squeamish about helping Daddy with the worms.

There was a toad.

The shoes and socks got wet almost immediately and came off shortly. The pants and hat didn't last much longer.

late April

She loves the mushroom ID book. She decides that mushrooms are "good" or "poisonous." We regularly mention that we never pick or eat mushrooms unless Mommy or Daddy gives them to her in the house.
