windy berry picking at Arctic Valley

Simmering up black and red currants from our garden and crowberries from the aforementioned Arctic Valley trip. The resulting puree went into the cupcake frosting.

Baby Romanesco in the garden

Bespoke currant-crowberry buttercream

Cupcake (garden zucchini-lemon) assembly line with Ima. Ava is putting nasturtium or borage flowers on each cupcake

The birthday party at a local park. How many PhD scientists does it take to hang a piñata? Three.

The air was super smoky from fires flared by the windy weekend. We all felt subdued by it, like bees in a hive getting smoked. Worse air quality than Beijing. It was affecting. Several families canceled on account of the smoke. But the party was still fun!

Ava's first day of school. 2nd grade! Kindergarten starts next week.

Mom's boots.

Playing by the creek and in the woods after picking Ava up from school.

Mom picked red currants and rose hips in the woods while the kids played.

Running through the woods to drop Ava off at school, day 2.

Practicing casting with a neighbor.

Playground, picking Ava up day 2.

"I'm a sloth."

The dog photo-bombed Mom's photo of the smoky sunset, weird red sun, and the glint on the water (Mom was berry picking).

Watching bees in the nasturtiums after dropping Ava off at school, day 3.
